Mia Leng (SAMS) Visit

Date

Today the children were delighted to welcome back Mia Leng from the Scottish Association for Marine Science. Mia explained to the children how satellite images from space help scientists observe changes in our planet. Penguin poo on ice is visible in these images and can be used to check the size and location of penguin groups. They also help track changes in the ice cap. The older children also learned about air currents and how they affect weather patterns around the world, identifying the Gulf Stream as being a factor in determining Scotland’s weather. Thank you very much to Mia for her very informative sessions today. The children are very much looking forward to future visits from her.
