We all know how important it is to preserve Kintyre’s heritage so P5-7 have begun exploring the medieval history of Kintyre, hoping to raise awareness of the wealth of historic sites and artefacts within the area.
They began by visiting Campbeltown Cross today.
Although this is a familiar sight within the town, it was interesting to learn about its origins in Iona and its movement from Kilkevan near Drumlemble to the Main Street. The children looked at the designs and spotted mythical creatures and a mermaid as well as looking at the intricate Celtic carvings.
We were accompanied by three very knowledgeable ladies, Elizabeth McTaggart, Jan Nimmo and Sheena Robertson, who are going to help the children with historical information, site visits and related art work. The children are very much looking forward to learning about their local area and its history over this session.
Article 32: Children have the right to take part in cultural and artistic activities.
