Drumlemble Primary has adopted Machrihanish Beach for the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch Survey with the assistance of Andrea McShannon from the Beaches & Marine Litter Project (The GRAB Trust). An important job given the large and varying litter we see washed up along this section of coast, this information is collated UK wide to form a picture of the marine litter problem here in the UK.It is this information which has led to the likes of the plastic bag charges and the bottle deposit scheme. The pupils completed a survey earlier in the year and had planned to undertake a survey this week but unfortunately poor weather meant this was not possible. Instead in the warmth of the classroom the children were excited to show Andrea all the interesting work and experiments they had completed as part of their Water Pollution Project. As part of the Beach & Marine Litter Project the children then designed their own cotton shopping bags with the theme of protecting their environment with a focus on plastic pollution. The children are keen to use their bags when out and about to spread their messages, a walking poster and they certainly cannot be missed. Well done P4-7!
